New Quarantine MaterialHarvest Declaration Form

January 29, 2017

GrainSearch continues annually to import new barley and wheat genetics from its breeding collaborators in New Zealand and Europe. Cereals enter the NSW DPI Quarantine Facility at Tamworth around March and a grown in pots for the season. We are then given the harvested grain from these pots in around March the following year (after lots of disease screening work). We receive amounts ranging from a few grams to 50 grams of seed per line. The first year in the field, these lines grow in small plots to provide us with sufficient seed to then expand into full replicated trialling in the following season (that’s 2 years into the evaluation program before we can even begin to evaluate the potential of the lines).
