  • Manning as a graze & grain crop in Tasmania

    January 29, 2017

Manning is a Dual Purpose White Grained Feed Wheat. Each year in Tasmania, many growers rely on Manning to provide them with high quality grazing feed early in the year, followed by a reliable grain harvest. Sown usually in early to mid February, Manning grows quickly and is ready for grazing in 5-6 weeks and can be grazed right through to the depths of winter and beyond (to GS30 stage to minimise grain loss). Manning is then locked up and ready in about January/early Feb for harvest, producing good quality & high yielding white feed wheat grain.

  • New Quarantine Material

    January 29, 2017

GrainSearch continues annually to import new barley and wheat genetics from its breeding collaborators in New Zealand and Europe. Cereals enter the NSW DPI Quarantine Facility at Tamworth around March and a grown in pots for the season. We are then given the harvested grain from these pots in around March the following year (after lots of disease screening work). We receive amounts ranging from a few grams to 50 grams of seed per line. The first year in the field, these lines grow in small plots to provide us with sufficient seed to then expand into full replicated trialling…
